About TitleSelect

NetLibrary's TitleSelect gives you the ability to search for and order eContent from NetLibrary's comprehensive catalog. You can begin in one of two ways: either by exploring NetLibrary's catalog using searches or browse functions, or by selecting a existing sample collection and modifying it to meet your needs. In either case, TitleSelect will help you build your own custom title lists, and allow you to submit your selection for easy order processing.

Searching for eContent

About Locating eBooks

TitleSelect provides two ways to search for eBooks:

  • The search TitleSelect window allows you to search by keyword, author, LC subject heading, or subject. This search is available from the TitleSelect home page

  • Advanced Search: Searches by title, author, subject, keyword, or allows you to limit your search by publisher, or publication year. You may also select any combination of these criteria. This search is available by clicking the Advanced Search link on the TitleSelect home page. This option lets you perform more extensive searches, since you can use Boolean operators in your search queries. You may also choose to limit your search to specific types of eBooks (i.e. Reference Center, IT Center, Languages) or to eBooks recently added to NetLibrary.
See Search Options for more information.

Help Menu

  • Title
  • Author
  • Subject
2. Enter a search term in the field to the right of the dropdown list and click Search.

TitleSelect displays the Search Results window, which lists those books that meet your search criteria. Note: the default search is Keyword

Note: NetLibrary automatically expands the search to include all variations of a word. For example, if you enter the search term flower, NetLibrary also searches for the words flowering, flowers, flowered, etc.

3. If you are not satisfied with the search results, you can revise your search or start over with a new search. To do this, click either Revise search or New search, located on the right-hand side of the Search Results page.

Advanced Search

Advanced Search increases the number of terms you can include in your search, allowing for more tailored search results. You can search by title, author, LC subject, keyword, publisher, publication year, or any combination of these criteria. This option lets you perform more extensive searches, since you can use Boolean operators in your search queries. You may also choose to limit your search to specific types of eContent or to eContent recently added to NetLibrary.

1. Click the Advanced Search link on the TitleSelect home page.

2. Enter search information in one or more of the fields displayed. (For information on using Boolean operators in your search query, see Using Boolean Operators.)

3. Select options from the dropdown lists to determine how the search results should be displayed.

Note: You can sort and sub-sort your search results by Title, Author, Publisher, Publication Date, Availability, or List Price. For example, you can sort results according to title and then, within title, by author.

4. Select options from the dropdown lists to determine how the search results should be displayed.

Note: You can sort your search results by two fields, including Title, Author, Publisher, Publication Date, Status, LCSH, LCC, DDC, List Price, or Owned (Local) Copies. For example, you can sort results by title and then, within title, by author.

5. Click Search to start the search.

TitleSelect displays the Search Results window, which lists those books that meet your search criteria.
6. If you are not satisfied with the search results, you can revise your search or start over with a new search. To do this, click either Revise search or New search, located on the right-hand side of the Search Results window.

Revise search retails your original search terms while New search clears all your search terms and parameters.

Help Menu

Using Boolean Operators

If you do not specify an operator, NetLibrary uses the Boolean AND operator to join the search terms you entered.

  • AND returns results that include both search terms(example: European AND history)

  • OR returns results that include either search term (example: cardiac OR heart)

  • NOT returns results that include the first search term but not the second (example: nursing NOT home)

  • NEAR is limited to the Title field and returns results that include both search terms in close proximity to each other (example: child NEAR read). You cannot include the single (*) or double (**) asterisk in your search query when using the NEAR Boolean operator.

  • Parentheses ( ) may be used to group queries. You must include spaces after the first parenthesis and before the second parenthesis (example: ( baseball OR softball ) AND coaching)

  • Double quotes (" ") may be used around words to indicate complete phrases (example: "civil rights")

  • Single asterisk (*) may be used as a wildcard; a wildcard represents one or more characters in a search term. Using the * wildcard lets you find multiple terms with a single search (example: cook* searches for cook, cooks, cooking, cookery, cookbook, etc.)

  • Double asterisks (**) may be used to locate all forms of a word (example: drive** searches for drive, drove, driving, and driven)
